The free ATS resume checker
that never sees your resume.

Drop in your file and read the plain text a parser actually pulls out of it. Everything runs in your browser: no upload, no account, no email box between you and the result. Open your network tab and watch, if you want to check us.

Scan my resume free What does an ATS actually see?

Unlimited scans. No result is stored anywhere, so there is nothing to unlock.

What you get back

Not a grade out of ten. The machine's actual transcript of your resume.

1The extracted text

The literal characters a parser pulls out, in the order it reconstructs them. If your two-column layout scrambles your job titles into your skills, you will see it happen.

2The fields it found

Name, email, phone, employers, dates, titles. And, more usefully, the ones it could not find, which is how you learn your contact details are stranded in a header.

3What to fix, specifically

Every finding names the thing and the fix. Most are formatting, not rewriting, and most take five minutes in your own file.

How this runs without uploading anything

The claim is checkable, so here is how to check it.

What an ATS actually does with your resume

Understanding the sequence is most of the fix, and it is less dramatic than the internet suggests.

Step 1Text extraction

It pulls characters out of your file. A PDF exported from a design tool is often an image of text, which extracts as nothing at all.

Step 2Reading order

It reconstructs what order those characters were meant to be read in. This is where multi-column layouts, tables, and text boxes fall apart.

Step 3Field classification

It labels the pieces: this is a name, this is an employer, this is a date range. Headers and footers are frequently skipped entirely.

Step 4Indexing and search

Your resume becomes a searchable record. A recruiter searches it. That is the part everyone imagines is an automatic rejection, and mostly it is not.

About that 75% statistic

We would rather lose the sale than repeat it.

You have read that 75% of resumes are rejected by an ATS before a human sees them. That number traces back to a 2012 sales claim from a company called Preptel, which shut down in 2013 without ever publishing a study, a sample size, or a method. You can watch it drift between 70, 75 and 88 percent across marketing pages that all cite each other. Applicant tracking systems are databases with search on top. Greenhouse's own documentation states its AI does not score or rank applications and nothing auto-advances or auto-rejects on an AI rating. The real failure mode is quieter and more fixable: your resume parses badly, so a recruiter searching for what you actually did never finds you.

What this tool can and cannot tell you

It can tell youIt cannot tell you
Whether your text extracts cleanly at allWhether any specific employer will interview you
Whether your name, email and phone are findableWhat score their system gives you, because most do not produce one
Whether your dates and section headings use formats parsers handleHow you rank against the other applicants
Whether words from a job posting appear in your resumeWhether a human will like your writing

A note on our own number: the score this tool shows is our heuristic, calculated by us. It is not any employer's number, and we are genuinely uncomfortable printing one at all. We show it because a single number makes the findings easier to prioritize, not because it exists inside anyone's hiring software.

How this compares, on things you can check

Only checkable axes. No opinions about whose AI is smarter.

If the scan finds problems

Most findings are yours to fix in five minutes, and you should. If the layout itself is the problem, Bounce Studio rebuilds it so it parses clean, using only the experience you already have. It never invents anything, and you can run any export back through this same scanner to check our work.

Questions

Is this ATS resume checker really free, and do I have to sign up?

It is free and there is no signup. No email, no account, no card, no scan limit. You will not hit a blurred result with an unlock button, because the result is not stored anywhere to unlock. We do sell paid tools and you will see them mentioned, but the scan is not a trial of anything.

Does my resume get uploaded anywhere?

No. The parsing runs in your browser, on your machine. The file never becomes a network request. You do not have to take our word for it: open your browser developer tools, click the Network tab, and run a scan. If you see your resume leave, we are lying and you should say so publicly.

What does an ATS actually see when it reads my resume?

It sees text, not your layout. The system extracts the characters, tries to reconstruct what order they were meant to be read in, then tries to label the pieces: this is a name, this is an employer, this is a date range. Everything after that is search. This tool shows you that extracted text so you can read exactly what survived.

Is it true that 75% of resumes are rejected before a human sees them?

No, and we would rather lose the sale than repeat it. That number traces to a 2012 sales claim from a company called Preptel, which shut down in 2013 without publishing a study, a sample size, or a method. Applicant tracking systems are mostly databases with search on top. The real risk is that your resume parses badly and never surfaces in a recruiter search.

What is a good ATS score?

Honestly, the question does not have a real answer, and we are uncomfortable that our own tool prints a number at all. The score here is our heuristic. It is not the employer's number, and most hiring systems do not produce a single score for a candidate. Treat it as a way to prioritize the findings, nothing more.

Can this tool tell me if I will get the interview?

No, and nothing can. It can tell you whether your text extracts cleanly, whether your contact details are findable, whether your dates and headings are in formats parsers usually handle, and whether words from a posting appear in your resume. Everything past that is a human decision in a market we cannot see.

Can I check a resume that Bounce did not write?

Yes, and we would encourage it. Drop in a resume you wrote yourself, one a friend sent you, or one another AI builder produced. Resumes built in Bounce Studio go through this exact scanner with no special treatment, which is the point.
